Don't Be Afraid to Be Furry

Dear Nick Cave,
Chicago is known for a few things: its wind, the politicians that our full with it, and possible Gitmo detainees. So when a man comes along and can remind us that Chicago is a city to be proud of, because beautiful art (or in this case artists) emerges that's something to take notice of.
Not to mention that I just want to snuggle into one of your furry suits and never have to face the Chicago weather again.
Truly,
The Purple Boot

Another It Girl

Say hello to Jacquelyn Jablonski, rising star. She may look like your average size two in her polaroids, but this year alone she has walked for Calvin Klein, Isaac Mizrahi, graced the advertisements of Sportmax, Alexander Wang, Dolce and Gabbanna, and Celine. She was also featured in the controversial spread "One Size Fits All" in V magazine, where she posed next to Crystal Renn.

Looking for photos of Jacquelyn different then most up and comers. Normally I would sift through a host of backstage photos or behind the scenes shots, but J.J. seems to be one of the few models who is known for her prowess in front of the camera, instead of her fashion sense behind it. Kudos to a girl who can actually do her job!

So please join me in welcoming her and her sister Constance to model royalty (Jaquelyn is ranked #44 out of the Top 50 models on models.com), long may they rein.

Working Girl. The ultimate It Girl

Hey guys, Cocoa boot's up and running again :) So last night was the Turnabout dance at our school and PB and I went with our friends as mechanics! Oh, and a banana; Mr. Bananas, that is. But it got me thinking about the working world and how much fun their fashion can be--from embellished blazers on business women to the coolest combo of bracelets stacked on that bus girl's arm, incorporating fashion into your working life is always a fun challenge of what you can do to stand out without, ya know, totally blowing the dress code. Try to jazz up your working wardrobe with bedazzled cardigans or statement shirts, like one with a big bow, or try wearing funky shoes that might be a wacky shape or a bright color (actually, brightening up any article of clothing--suit, shoes, bag--is a great way to be noticed but still classy)--you may even have some of these but don't want to make that big an impression when you go to do some labor, but my advice is don't be scared to be bold! Keep it clean and remember that even though this is your chance to express you, it also gives a vibe as to what type of worker you are--save those thigh-high leather boots for the club and exchange them for studded leather booties; it'll still say "I'm edgy and sophisticated, you know you like it and you know I'm worth your time" without yelling "Hey world look at me!!!! I do exist and I do have a sexy side I promise!" As my mom used to say, Get it/got it/good :)

For the girl who rocks a uniform, bold is still on the menu, but go for accessories and still have fun with shoes! But if it's tough for you to flaunt your fashion while you work, experiment with make up or have fun getting little designs on your nails :)

Not Your Normal Barbies

Viktor and Rolf are dark geniuses, witnessed recently by their new dolls. Yes, dolls. Dolls neatly shined and pressed in V&R's most famous creations. But as much as I love them, I am completely afraid that these funky Madame Alexander's are going to jump off the shelf when I sleep...

Thanks so much to our favorite MOD, O, for the David Yurman photos
And a special shout out to "Mr. Bananas", who didn't like his original name. Sorry, Nanners!

Similarities

Proenza Schouler

See any resemblance? Yes, the 80's are here to stay.

Sorry about the lack of original outfit posts, I just moved and everything is packed away, including my camera cord. Not that it works if I could find it...

DIY via Who. What. Wear.

Visit P.S. I Made This to get the step by step instructions!

You Were Outta My League

I will not toy with it nor bend an inch.
Deep in the secret chambers of my heart

muse my life-long hate, and without flinch
I bear it nobly as I live my part.

My being would be a skeleton, a shell,
If this dark Passion that fills my every mood,
And makes my heaven in the white world's hell,
Did not forever feed me vital blood.

I see the mighty city through a mist--
The strident trains that speed the goaded mass,
The poles and spires and towers vapor-kissed

A door opens. You can get on the plane. The seats are narrow, old, the sort-of puke green you only see stained on bathroom floors. And yet, you can't help being excited. No one you know has done this before you. You tackle the small, swaying plane. You will come out the other side, better and braver. Soon the wings are carried by wind, the ground only a memory of stability, and the ocean on your horizon. But then, your stomach rolls and you help create another puke-green memory.

I hope I wasn't too angsty for anyone, but this is how I think of the white challenge. While first tackling it with excitement, I soon realized that dressing in one color is horribly depressing. You feel uncomfortable, unsure. Whether or not you like the outfit does not matter, just the fact you're wearing the same color over and over again...Your eyes begin to bleed white.

So consider the challenge a success in some ways. I wore 14 days of white (sorry, not all photos will be posted due to a) computer problems and b) ugly outfits), and I think tried styles that without this I might never have explored. But I couldn't have done it for another 14. I have to say, though, I came out a stronger person. The outfits I would consider too 'weird' or 'fashion-y' are now tame. So be expecting some fun patterns and new trend experiments!

Inspired by Disease

Hey readers, I apologize for the lack of posting, but I have been sick with mono and some other nasty virus for a while now, and have been hibernating whilst feeling blah. :/ Today is the first day I've gotten out of bed for longer than going to the bathroom, but in between swallowing meds and silly fevers, I did a little reading and drawing wanted to share some of my inspiration with you! Check out these websites for some funky ideas and try your hand at scribbling some of them with your own personal edge :) You know what'd actually be a sick--pardon the pun--collection? Inspired by viruses and germs...

Oh How I Wish!

Proenza Schouler
~Courtesy of Vogue.com~

So ever since I saw it in my copy of Vogue, I have been obsessing over Proenza Schouler's vibrant and brilliant design--the bright colors of this sweater reminded me of it, so I had to get it, but because I have yet to find a crazy colorful skirt worthy of going with it, I decided to tone down Schouler's gorgeous extremeto something more everyday, but still eye-popping!
