A Little Less 16 Candles, A Little More Touch Me

"How 90s" some people would say. Being able to see your bra under your shirt? Leave it to Courtney Love or Carrie Bradshaw. But I, on the other hand, see the real beauty in a little reveal. Why not have every layer of your clothing, including your undergarments, be something to be proud of, to show off? You can be tasteful, a la Charlotte Gainsbourg and Late Afternoon, or let it all hang out. Remember, a little lace never hurt anyone.

Summer Part 2

Finals are fast approaching and I find myself hiding out behind the computer screen. I mean, why study when I can just loose myself in photos of beautiful women in beautiful clothes, soaking up the sun at the beach. In a few days that will be me, failing grades or no!

How are you preparing for the end of the school year?

Mad for Miu Miu

One photo is from the actual Miu Miu campaign, while the other comes from the new Zara lookbook.

Which is the real Miu Miu?

There's something so magical about being touching distance from one of your favorite bands. I think its the fact that if you sing the lyrics loud enough, I firmly believe they will pull you up on stage. This was the Spoon concert at the Riviera Ballroom in Chicago. The crowd was small and enthusiastic, collectively booing at the first opening band. Deerhunter followed, and then of course Spoon. If you haven't heard the album Gimme Fiction, buy it. Now.

The stage was incredible, bare light bulbs were strung together across the instruments, giving the whole place an intimate feel. I left with a few best friends and a even greater appreciation for this amazing band.

Kinda reminds me of Alien Vs. Predator...
Have a favorite horror movie? And is it possible for all that blood and gore to inspire fashion?
Personally, I think inspiration can come from anywhere. Just looking at the architecture of the buildings in Soho and Tribecca have me salivating over a Victorian dress with tons of detailing. Or a day at the Met can have me jonesing for a geometric mini. Sometimes my own city inspires me. Millennium Park is beautiful at night, especially after sneaking out with friends for hot chocolate at the Hard Rock Cafe....

The Eco. Boot: DIY Using The 3 R's

If you know fashion, you know that anyone who says trends cannot be repeated is crazy. Each decade, each era, comes back into our fashion world again and again, so why, in this economy, does that have to mean buying what’s basically the same outfit each time it appears as part of the “latest season”?

Save. Just because something is out of style now doesn’t mean it won’t be brought back. Or, if you really don’t want it trade it in at a thrift store, where some of the best-kept secrets and treasures are hidden.

nastygal

Rework. Keep that crazy colored 80’s windbreaker your mom used to love, and pair it with any simple ensemble in a more versatile shade, like black, nude or white. Got anything white? I think you know what I’m going to suggest; TIE DYE! It’s possibly the biggest trend on the runway this year, and it’s something super fun that you can experiment with by yourself, or with friends!

chictopia

Recreate. If you have a pair of jeans that you got paint, sharpie, or some sort of irremovable stain on, or if you can’t get hold of the materials for tie dye, try doing something like splatter painting them! Or you can chicly splash them with bleach to create a unique, just off the runway appearance.

Never be afraid to do something a little out of the ordinary (how else do you think artists are successful?) and remember that the three R’s don’t just apply to bottles and paper; being Earth-chic is hotter than ever, so if you want to be timelessly fashionable, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

What's Up Doc?

LEFT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT! Ok, so chances are, unless you're a part of the armed forces, you won't be having this spat at you while donning a dusty camo. uniform, dog tags, a torn cap and mud-covered boots. And maybe you' prefer that. But hey, no one ever said that we civilians couldn't replicate the BA outfits in everyday life! When you rock combat boots, camouflage, dog tags, and all that army jazz mixed with a simple ensemble of jeans and a fabulous pleather jacket, or shorts and a t-shirt, you get girly with a hardcore edge. Or hey, for the same effect in the shoe, you can just go for patterns like Springy florals! Can you say, done and done? I think yes. xoxo, CB

I think we can all agree that there always comes a time when one's in the mood for military chic--who doesn't love a woman (or man) in a uniform?

McQueen and Going Green

1 Man.
4 months.
Infinite ideas.

Please check back on Friday the 14th for a mini bio. of the late (and great) Alexander McQueen.
A lot has happened in the past week, including meeting the wonderful Jane Goodall twice, and getting a fantastic internship with ACE, an organization that works to spread awareness about and to stop global warming. I'm very excited, for the internship involves me blogging about "Green" fashion trends, events, etc. which will be posted here on The Purple Boot!

Irony?: On February 11, 2010, designer and genius Alexander McQueen hung himself in his home in England. 1 day later, February 12, 2010, Haiti suffered one of the most tragic earthquakes in history. Coincidence? Possibly, but I personally prefer to believe that the Earth was mourning the loss of the creative genius. Please do not take this as me not taking the Haitian devastation seriously, because I do, and I hope that readers and people in general realize it as well--even though it's already been 4 months, the aftershock is still haunting the country that has lost everything as well as the world. Tomorrow, take a moment to remember all who have been effcted by disasters, and do something about it. Take action. Love your world. xoxo, CB.

Wrapped Up

After dying my hair, my strands are horribly dry and frizzy. But instead of hiding inside my trusty beige "secret hat" (which I apprarently have not worn on the blog...Gawd, I need a good camera), I can wrap myself in something infinitely chicer. Hermes for an early birthday present?

How do you fix a bad hair day?
